Is there such a thing as “wholesome” smut?
I like to think so; a lot of my stories feature characters exploring their sexuality in safe and supportive environments, in the context of loving (if unconventional) relationships. They’re low-angst, high-consent stories about discovery and shared pleasure — what could be more wholesome than that?
But others are a little less wholesome. They might involve a little cheating and deceit, or some darker, kinkier activities; they might even push the boundaries of consent without ever quite crossing the line. There’s obviously a place for that in erotic fiction, too — fiction is a place to poke and prod at the beasts lurking in our hearts, to safely explore things we would never do in our real lives in a million years.
I’ve divided up my stories along the spectrum of wholesome to debauched, so you can dip into the tale that will deliver the fantasy you’re looking for at the moment: gentle and loving, or rough and spiteful; smooth vanilla or burning spice.
Wholesome
These stories feature loving couples (and other groupings) exploring their desires:
Throuple, Katie’s Christmas Cracker, The Night of the Storm, Night Nurse, Touchdown!, PURSUED, A Siren’s Tales, The Betwixtmas Switch, Mia’s Patio Playtime, A Touch in the Dark, Cassie Clears the Bases, Pitchers and Catchers Report, Designated Hitter, Hot Mess Express: #VanLife, Spring Break Service!, The Center of Attention, Checked by the Chess Club, Season’s Delights
Youthful Bad Behavior
Kids these days … These stories are about youthful energy running high and maybe a little dangerously.
How I Won Spring Break, Spring Break Binge!, Spring Break Splash!, Spring Break Sizzle!, Beach Volleyball Bump, Beach Volleyball Rematch!, Pounded at Pirate Land, Crossing Swords With the Fencing Club
A Little Darker …
Characters in these stories feel compulsions they don’t understand, and are drawn to explore darker aspects of desire:
Madeline’s Awakening, Casey’s Story, Matin, Midi, Minuit, Beneath the Mask, Cassie Keeps the Curfew, Lightning in a Bottle, Passion in the Stars, Marjory’s Lesson
Cheating
Vows are broken in these stories, sometimes deceitfully, sometimes with consent:
A Dip in the Lake, Off the Leash, The Contours of Desire, Dorothy’s Domestic Bliss, Dido Reclaimed, The Pinball Queen’s Debauch, Use Me at the Fair
Dubious Consent
In the real world, consent needs to be enthusiastic and ongoing, freely given and easily revoked. But in fiction we can explore the desires that make those hard lines around consent so necessary. In these stories, characters are compelled by more than mere desire …
The Senator’s Daughter, Bound for Eden, Members Only Night at the Supermarket
(Pseudo) Incest
This is one of the taboos that Amazon especially frowns upon, and yet it remains highly popular with erotica readers. Familial lines are crossed in these stories, step and otherwise …
