Come Back to Bed, Hessian Soldier
December, 1776: Trenton, New Jersey
Anna, Sarah, and Gretchen are three young widows living on the edge of the American frontier. Anna and Sarah lost their husbands to smallpox; Gretchen’s husband was killed on Breed’s Hill in 1775 when the Colonial militia attempted to break the British blockade of Boston. Eking out a life in the colonies is a challenge in the best of times; with the drums of war beating all around them, that challenge is fraught with danger.
When the Hessian soldiers hired by the British to put down the rebellion billet in nearby Trenton for the winter, Anna thinks she sees a solution to their problems: a nice, strong, young German man is exactly what they need to maintain the farm and, perhaps, provide them with the children they’ve desired. Hans, the young man they receive when Anna makes her request of the Hessians’ commander, seems exactly what they need.
But with Washington’s army massing across the Delaware, the separate peace at Anna’s farm is very much in question …
The British Are Coming
April 18, 1775, Charlestown, Massachusetts
The two British officers at the Loyal Oak public house expect only the finest drink, and the finest service, on the eve of their certain victory over the rebels who dare to stand against the mightiest empire since Rome. And surely they deserve to share a willing wench as well before leading their troops to glory.
But Mercy has a mission tonight as well, a risky gambit that could mean victory for her young nation if she succeeds, or deadly defeat if she fails. What is she willing to risk to ensure the cause of liberty?

Justin has returned to his father’s home after one poor decision cascades into a life-wrecking catastrophe. When he discovers his father’s wife’s secret past, he thinks he’s found the power to bind her to his will; but to his surprise and delight, he finds the power to set both of them free.
“The Comeback” is a short, extra spicy stepmom romance; though it features settings and characters from “The Heart’s Hunger” and “Come Together,” it can be read as a stand-alone story.
