The final chapter of “Matador” came out yesterday, and tomorrow the whole novella will leave Medium because it will be moving to Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited program. Until then, though, you can read the chapters through the free friend links in these posts, or purchase an epub and PDF version for just 99 cents at Payhip.
Kindle Unlimited pays authors per page read (not unlike the way Medium pays for reads and claps, but with a much larger audience and a bigger potential payout), but it requires exclusivity: the ebooks in the KU program can’t be available on any other platform, free or paid. I like putting stories on Medium before they go to KU, because it’s a chance for me to get some pre-publication feedback, to earn a few cents for my work, to let new fans find my work, and to let existing fans enjoy my work ahead of the crowd.
I hope you enjoy “Matador,” however you read it! It was a bit of a departure for me — most of my stories are much lighter in tone, really just filthy frolics — and I enjoyed the challenge. This story isn’t done yet — Francie still needs to have her say, and I suspect Ramone has some wrinkles to add himself — but I’m going to clear my head with some lower stakes stories for most of February.
